"I would love to redo my kitchen, but I don't know where to start." I have heard this over and over again, so I created this site to help answer the most common questions and get you started on the path to that kitchen you've always wanted. In the blog archive you will see lots of before and after photo sets of remodels that I designed. The video bar has a number of short videos where I answer the most common questions that I'm asked. I hope this helps, and I look forward to assiting you with a project of your own. Doug Daum The Louisville Kitchen Guy

The right island makes all the difference. (before & after)

The original island in this East end home was not the right shape or scale for the space, so I designed an island, in a complimentary finish, that fills the space properly.  We also replaced the white appliances with stainless steel, added granite countertops and replaced the tile backsplash.  The contractor did a great job of extending the wood floor from the kitchen into the living room.

Above is before and below is after.  You can't tell where the old floor stopped and the new one starts

Another contemporary condo (before & after)

This condo had a very traditional seventies kitchen and that did not sit well with the very contemporary owners.  The condo had really nice space, but the kitchen was totally closed off ( in true 70's style) and you could only access it through a single door.  We removed two walls to open up the space, and designed a comfortable contemporary kitchen.

This picture is the same view as the "before" one above it

A cottage with an addition. (before & after)

The homeowners had lived in this St. Matthews cottage long enough to raise their children.  They wanted to enjoy an upgrade of both function and space, but after looking at several new homes, they decided to build an addition that included a master suite as well as a new kitchen and keeping area.

Tri-Level Turnaround (before & after)

This tri-level that was built in the seventies is very common in the Louisville area.  We wanted to update the look and function of the kitchen.  I noticed that an entire wall was underutilized because the door to the dining room was 6 inches too far to the left.  Six inches may not sound like much until you see what a difference moving the door made.

New Home with a basic kitchen (before & after)

This house was only six years old when the owners came to me but the "builder grade" kitchen was already showing some pretty serious signs of wear.  The owners wanted to "upgrade" the appliances and cabinets and incorporate a little used covered porch into the kitchen area.

Small Kitchen (before & after)

The owners of this immaculately maintained small house had already added on a master bedroom suite and finished the basement so they had plenty of living area.  The problem was the kitchen was still closed off in its own little space.  This made the living room, dining room and kitchen, three very small and separate spaces, which was fine in the 60's but it doesn't fit today's lifestyle.  We opened it up to create a single living space that mimics the "living area" that you would find in a much larger home built today.

Contemporary condo (before & after)

The new owner of a condo in a landmark local high rise wanted to to open up the division from the traditional kitchen and dining room and create a sleek but warm effect.

Do it yourselfer redo. (before & after)

When a do it yourselfer made several rookie mistakes on a kitchen remodel he called me to help fix it.  Unfortunately, we pretty much had to start over.  The problem was not the do it yourselfer's craftsmanship, because he did all the work on the second remodel, his design didn't work right.
